The Driving Test is completed by the Driving Standards Agency to see if you have reached a competent driving standard. The test will start with the Eyesight Test, then the Vehicle Maintenance Questions. Once the Vehicle Maintenance has been completed you will drive on rural roads, driving on a single or dual carriageway, driving through housing estates, driving through local towns and will include two manouvers. You may be requested to complete the Emergency Stop. The Emergency Stop is not classed as a manouver.
The Driving Test lasts approximately 35-45 minutes, depending on road and traffic conditions.
You must take your Driving Test at your local Test Centre. These test centres can be located via the internet, contacting the Driving Standards Agency, contacting Strive to Drive or by booking your Driving Test by telephone 0870 01 01 372.
When you go for your Driving Test, you will need to take the following: PHOTOCARD DRIVING LICENCE & COUNTERPART DRIVING LICENCE (paper copy), YOUR THEORY CERTIFICATE &THE LETTER THE DSA SENT TO YOU CONFIRMING YOUR THEORY TEST.
You can book your Driving Test by visiting Strive to Drive Bookings Page, or contacting the Driving Standards Agency by telephone 0870 01 01 372, Internet www.dsa.gov.uk or by contacting Strive to Drive and they can book your test for you.
A Mock Test will be conducted by your Strive to Drive instructor 2-3 weeks prior to your actual Driving Test date. This will give an indication to see if you are ready to go for your Driving Test. The Mock Test will be similar to your Driving Test and should give you an insight as to what to expect when on your Driving Test. Your Mock Test results will be discussed with you and any areas of concern will be addressed as soon as possible. If your Mock Test results indicate that you are not ready for your Driving Test, your instructor will advise the next course of action.
You can prepare for your Driving Test by using Strive to Drive Progress Sheet which will be given to you at the start of your driving lessons. You will also recieve the DSA Approved Log Book, which will enable you to keep a record of your progress at home.
To pass the Driving Test you are allowed up to 15 minor errors, 0 serious errors and 0 dangerous errors. Any more than the 15 minor errors and you will not pass due to accumalitive driving errors. If you recieve a serious error or dangerous error you will not pass your Driving Test. If the examiner has to take physical or verbal action to assist you in you test, you will not pass your Driving Test.
Strive to Drive instructor will guide you through your lessons covering subjects and topics that are required by the Driving Standards Agency. You will also be advised on what the Driving Test routes when you are close to your Driving Test date. Your instructor will offer guidance and support so you can feel at ease when nearing your Driving Test.
The Vehicle Maintenance Test is for you to gain an understanding to complete basic car maintenance. The Vehicle Maintenance Test is conducted during your Driving Test and consists of 2 questions. 1 question will be from the Show Me question bank and 1 question will be from the Tell Me question bank. The full range of Show Me and Tell Me questions will be discussed in full by your Strive to Drive instructor. You will receive a Vehicle Maintenance Sheet from your instructor near to your Driving Test so you can prepare for the Test. If you fail 1 question you will receive 1 minor error. If you fail both questions you will receive 2 minor errors. You do not fail your test if you incorrectly answer the Vehicle Maintenance Test questions.
If you do not pass your Driving Test you will be advised by your instructor to the next course of action.
